What is Sovereign Birth?

At Sovereign Birth Works, Rachel is devoted to walking alongside women and families as they step into the sacred journey of birth and postpartum with strength, clarity, and choice. Her work is grounded in the belief that every birthing person deserves access to informed, consensual care—and the deep knowing that their voice matters in every decision made.

sovereign
/ˈsäv-rən/ or /ˈsäv(ə)-rən/ adj.

  1. Having the full right and power to govern oneself without external control; autonomous.

  2. Acting from one’s own inner authority; free to choose.
Origin: Middle English soverain, from Old French, ultimately from Latin superanus, meaning “highest, supreme.”

At Sovereign Birth Works, sovereign does not speak to royalty—but to self-authority. The power to choose. The ability to lead your life, your health, and your birth from a place of informed intuition, grounded confidence, and embodied freedom.

With a gentle yet unwavering presence, Rachel supports her clients in feeling confident, resourced, and truly seen—whether their path leads them through undisturbed physiological birth or involves medical interventions such as induction or cesarean. Her approach draws from a rich blend of personal experience with natural childbirth, a strong understanding of clinical environments, and a lifelong commitment to optimal nourishment and holistic health.

Rachel believes that birth is not something to be managed—it’s a transformative rite that deserves reverence, preparation, and protection. Her mission is to ensure families are not only supported, but sovereign: equipped with both expert guidance and access to trustworthy resources, so they can move through their birthing season with integrity and well-being.

Looking ahead, Rachel envisions expanding her role beyond doula work to become a healthcare concierge—a skilled guide helping individuals navigate their care with clarity and discernment, connecting them to providers and practices that truly align with their values and needs.

At the heart of Sovereign Birth Works is this truth:
When we reclaim birth as our own, we lay the foundation for a lifetime of empowered, embodied health.

A Note on Values and Care:
At Sovereign Birth Works, I hold a deep reverence for the integrity of the whole child. Because of this, I do not accept clients who plan to circumcise their baby boys. My care is rooted in respect for bodily autonomy, and I am committed to supporting families who align with this value.
